History: The company was founded in Liverpool, with partners John Hignett and Samuel Hignett. In 1859, they were known as Hignett Brothers and Co, and were taken over by imperial tobacco in 1901. The brand "Hignett's Golden Butterfly" was known for its association with cigarettes, some tipped with real gold dust - targeting wealthy patrons.
